Memory4Less DDR4 Memory Price Report September, 2020
DDR4 2400Mhz 32GB, 64GB
DDR4 Memory Price Summary September, 2020
Memory Prices have remained fairly stable over the last 5 months since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. Supply-Chain challenges remain in the industry due to the disruptions caused by Covid-19. At the same time there is pressure to sell in the industry as sellers need to free up cash. This duality of pricing pressures has caused dram modules prices to remain stable and in some categories decline. In addition the data centers and enterprise buyers have postponed much of their procurement plans during the summer months. This third factor has also contributed in forcing dram module prices to remain stable over the Covid-19 crisis. If any of the above factors were to change in the coming months, we can expect the dram module prices to rise significantly. OEM manufacturers (factories) continue to give very long lead times for new product especially 64GB and 128GB. This is primarily due to break-down of their supply chain due to Covid-19. As Supply Chains start to come back online we may see products flow into the market.
There is strong demand from business forced to pivot and start working from home. There is huge demand for Networking Equipment to allow remote work to continue. A lot of existing equipment has been reconfigured and upgraded to accommodate remote employees needs and demands. Most business resorted to upgrading existing equipment to save cash. Hence orders on new equipment declined as the crisis continued into the summer months. The demand for refurbished IT gear upgrade increased substantially over the summer months, and there were shortage of parts on some categories. Businesses needed the higher speeds and and faster processing and demand for Memory, CPU, Switches, Firewalls and Storage (hard drives and SSD) continued to remain very strong.
Our recommendation to our customers is to upgrade and acquire any equipment that is essential to their operations and not delay. Parts can become scarce in the market without much warning and with increasing US sanctions the possibility of potential shortages of parts is very high.
We hope you are all staying well and safe.
Respectfully, Team Memory4Less
