Coming out of January into February the prices for memory remained fairly stable. Demand was strong and there was matching supply of products and hence the prices remained mostly the stable in February 2021. As political and pandemic uncertainties resolved during this time period we now see a surge in pent up demand.

The continuing COVID-19 crisis continues to impact the economy and the market place. However, the demand for IT products including memory remains strong. The technology sector by far has played a huge role in supporting businesses whether it be cloud services, video conferencing, remote collaboration, the IT sector has helped business withstand the onslaught of the pandemic and in certain cases thrive.

However the full impact of this crisis is still unknown and our observation is that there is considerable pressure on the OEM manufacturers to produce the component at a faster rate. This will inevitably result in increasing costs of all IT equipment. Memory and CPU are bellwether components and the current trend is showing an increase in prices as manufacturers and the related supply chains come online only to discover the cost of doing business is not the same but actually significantly higher.

Our recommendation to customers is to buy in this price consolidation period to future protect IT investment. However, as time progress and we all come to a post-pandemic equilibrium there may remain some permanent shifts in the market. These will greatly impact price of products we are paying today.

The 3200Mhz  – 2900Mhz in capacities of  128GB, 64GB, 32GB are still heavily discounted and are an extremely good opportunity for customer to buy at these price points. A 20%-30% increase in their costs in inevitable.
